Sometimes…
Sometimes work frustrates me. But then I remember that my job isn't to do what I want, but rather what my boss wants and my company needs me to do. So I need to remind myself of that sometimes. Because in the grand scheme of it all, the things that frustrate me really don't make a difference in my life either way. They won't have any real influence over what happens in the future.
So I end up frustrated over nothing of any real importance. And when it doesn't get done as assigned, my boss gets annoyed as well. So I end up frustrated, my boss frustrated, and the assignment in question isn't done. Not the outcome I want. So I just need to take a deep breath and release.
Cartoons aren't always funny….
So as I follow the whole cartoon->fire thing... I learn more.
But let me interrupt myself and talk about newsvine. A friend of mine got me on it. Premise is 2 fold. One, it has a whole bunch of AP wire stories. They all have tags. People can vote up a story. You can see what stories are voted up the most. You can comment on them, etc. Cool. The second (cooler) part is people like me or you can find a story online, be it a blog entry, press release, other news outlet whatever... and 'seed' it on the newsvine site. You basically can bring a no name story into the limelight so to speak. So that is what I did with here. You can click "read the article" to see the article I am referring to.
So the article basically talks about the issue at hand, but with a much different perspective and answers a number of questions that I didn't even know enough to ask. Well worth the read, as it is a much better perspective than many of the other news sources.
It also is a great example of the newsvine idea in action. If you want an invite, let me know, I think I have a couple.
It also brings up the point that although we have a free press, we are limited to what the mainstream press presents to us, what 'facts' they bring up, and what they deem important, as that all controls what we determine to be true in the world. Sure we don't have a government controlled press, but sometimes I am not sure I like those that do control it....
Ahhh religion….
So the danish publish a newspaper with a cartoon that shows Muhammad as a terrorist... and what happens? People set fire to embassies.
article on the topic...
I guess I have issues with this on countless levels. First, the maturity level here is low, since the danish GOVERNMENT didn't publish the cartoons, so burning the danish embassy is ill targeted. It would be like us targeting a foreign government after 9-11....
I guess, being from a place that thinks it has separation of church and state, and as much as I complain, we kind of do comparatively, although I leaders still openly push their beliefs, but whatever, I digress... It seems so odd that your government would so openly support one religion. I like to think that if a country took offense against catholicism or whatever we would not move for sanctions on them... who knows.
I still think religion causes harm.
Working…
So I worked on the current train project last night for a while with dylan. I don't mind coding with dylan, but I think I need a better place to sit at his house, if this becomes a more common thing. I forgot how much I a) enjoy coding, problem solving, etc. and b) coding with another person. When you are coding by yourself, it sometimes gets kinda tunnel vision and shitty. You get all frustrated with your code or a problem. And nothing against non-coders, but you can't really complain to them and feel that they get it. Which is good, I couldn't necessarily hang out with only coders.
But it was nice to make that, I like the sense of accomplishment. And I like getting paid. Soon I will call Al up and order that block and get the motor on Cali moving.
